CCTV video recorders can be categorized into two major groups - analog recorders, and digital recorders(DVR Systems). Analog time-lapse video recorders are widely known as time-lapse VCR, are using standards VHS tapes to record video in extended mode. The extended video recording times are possible by reducing number of frames per second recorded (Time lapse Recording). Quality of recording is good with one camera in single view, however when more then one camera is being used in split screen mode, picture quality is reduced. Digital video recorders (DVR Systems) does not suffer from reduced video quality with more then one camera, because it records each camera separately in full screen. In DVR systems video is being recorded on Hard Drive instead of VHS, eliminating need to replace the tape every time it reaches the end. Digital video recorders can overwrite video recordings on first in, first out bases, and offer several advantages over time lapse VCR, but probably the most amazing one, is capability to view the video over network or Internet connection.

What do I need to setup CCTV remote monitoring?
First of all, select digital video recorder with network capabilities. Make sure it has web server build-in. Web server allows to access the DVR without the need of installing additional software on every computer. High-speed Internet access (ADSL, DSL or cable) is required with static IP, at the monitoring site.
