Digital video recording can be achieved using two different types of equipment. Stand alone DVR systems and computer-based recording. We will focus on computer based surveillance recording. It is cost affective to integrate DVR cards (DVR capture card) into existing or new computer system, in order to transfer the computer into full-featured DVR recorder. This type of recording method will have the same capabilities as stand alone DVR system. For better price, there has to be a trade off, resolution is lower than one available with professional DVR systems, also reliability is somewhat reduced (computer systems are prone to virus infections, system instability and software conflicts).

What do I need to setup CCTV remote monitoring?
First of all, select digital video recorder with network capabilities. Make sure it has web server build-in. Web server allows to access the DVR without the need of installing additional software on every computer. High-speed Internet access (ADSL, DSL or cable) is required with static IP, at the monitoring site.
